First of all target a keyword or a keyword phrase before doing anything.

Use overture tool, make sure the keyword or keyword phrase is popular enough.

Then search for that keyword phrase on MSN and Google.

Target any field for which number of competetors is as less as possible like 100,000 and it is searched for atleast 10,000 per month

Then select a good domain name.

Give it a good relavent title and good description

Submit to MSN and Google

Get the blog 10-20 backlinks from sites with relaventcontent and appropriate anchot text, not same though.

If u do this properly, u will surely get atleast 100-500 visitors per day within 1-2 months.
